An hour and a half drive from Abu Dhabi is Al Ain, one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city of Al Ain is the greenest city in the UAE and the birthplace of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan (the al-Nahyan family has ruled Abu Dhabi for more than 250 years).
